A small town that feels like homeIncorporated in 1885, Crescent City still maintains its historic Florida charm. Crescent City sits on the shores of Crescent Lake, one of the largest lakes in the State of Florida and a lake with direct connection to the St. Johns River. It is this connection to the St. Johns River and early presence of the citrus industry that settled Crescent City. Known as the "bass capital" (it is in the City logo, so it must be true!), Crescent City is also fast becoming a black crappie fishing (aka speck fishing) capital– hosting the 4th Annual Crappie USA fishing tournament on January 18, 2014. An integral part of the last 37 years of its history , the Crescent City Rotary Club will be hosting the 36th Annual Catfish Festival the first Saturday in April 2015; a regional event which features delicious regional food like gator tail, frog legs, swamp cabbage, and of course, catfish. Crescent City is also home to the world famous 3 Bananas Restaurant, which occupies a historic Old Florida building on the shores of Crescent Lake and can be reached by boat or car. There are also several antique shops and other small eateries, as well as a walking tour of historic buildings that help make this town an excellent day trip or weekend getaway any time of year.Crescent Lake is pristine, undeveloped, and somewhat undiscovered. It is situated just a few miles east of the St. Johns River and the more widely known Lake George. Crescent City has three of the five boat ramps available to access the entire lake. But you can come by water craft via the St. Johns River using a navigable tributary called Dunns Creek, which has its own excellent fishing spots. Want to bring in your 60-foot house boat or your 10-foot Seadoo – you can get here from there! At approximately 30 square miles, Crescent Lake is one of the largest lakes in the State of Florida with clean water, lush shoreline vegetation, and unspoiled natural scenery. It has a very large variety of fishing features that include shallow grass, shell beds, sharp drops, ledges, deep water, lily pad fields, logs and cypress trees, creek channels, canals, and boat docks.
